Criminals or Not?!?! - Spot Fixing Controversy

It all started when Pakistan Cricket Team was on the tour of England for the 2010 season. Pakistan had already lost the first two matches from England and won the third test. The last match was underway and Pakistan were already on the verge of losing another match and thus, the test series from England. Suddenly, out of nowhere on 28th Aug 2010, the News of the World alleged the Pakistani players Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Asif and Salman Butt, of spot-fixing in the same match and as they say, "the rest is history".

Each one of you has the verdict of the ICC tribunal with you now. Personally, I think that ICC is right about that decision of 10, 7 and 5 years ineligibility of Butt, Asif and Amir to play cricket but you might think on what basis?? Well, let me tell you my reasons for my opinion aren't rational enough. I think it's the right decision just because of the doubt in my mind from the very first day that these guys have committed this crime, not because I think the evidence was good enough neither do I think the video of Mazhar Majeed, the bookie and Pakistani players' agent, claiming that he has talked to the players to bowl those no-balls and the fact, the three of them eventually bowling those no-balls. Why all this confusion about the verdict?? All of this because the court case was never opened by the ICC for the media. There is no evidence being provided to the whole world to see and confirm their suspicion on these individuals.

If we take into account, the history of everything bad that has ever happened to Pakistan Cricket in the past two decades. It has a lot to do with the tours of England. Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were called "cheaters", when they bowled those banana swingers to the English Batsmen and later they had to be taught the art and science of the reverse swing to assure the Cricket World that they never cheated. The same thing happened when in 2004, when Inzamam as the Captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team walked out of the match because umpire Darell Hair called them "Cheaters" when Umar Gul started swinging the ball. Daryl Hare was later banned for a whole year and is seldom seen as an Umpire. The match was at the end forfeited and to this day, remains the only forfeited match in the history of Cricket. And the latest tour of England resulted in the revelation of spot-fixing.

Keeping all these incidents in mind, we have more suspicion on ICC than our own players. But the only thing that convinced me that Pakistani Cricketers were involved in spot-fixing was the video which showed Muhammad Amir's action from back view. If you're an ardent follower of Cricket and if you have seen Amir bowl before, the action with which he bowled that delivery was quite different from his normal action. The stride that he took was so huge that one could tell it from behind that he has bowled a no-ball. The picture that showed him stepping across the line also tells you a lot. Below is a video footage that shows the whole story in a nutshell.

As a cricket fan, I want ICC to disclose all evidences to the media and let everyone decide for themselves whether these cricketers are criminals or not, so that the ICC administration is not called a "racist" one. Finally, as a Pakistani, I don't care whether the punishments have been extremely strict because I think PCB itself should have investigated the matter and should put a life ban on any such player who has even bowled a no-ball to earn money illegally. These players represent Pakistan on an international level and anyone who represents Pakistan at that level should be held accountable. This does not only include the cricketers but politicians, actors or any Pakistani for that matter.

Road to World Cup 2011 - Patriotic Songs

The first song was never made for Pakistan Cricket Team but its made for every Pakistani in the world. Yeah you guessed it right ... :-)

Song: Dil Dil Pakistan
Band: Vital Signs

Let us listen to some nostalgic songs especially made for Pakistan Cricket Team.

This song is still fresh in our memories and it still manages to instill patriotism in all the Pakistanis. This song was especially composed for Pakistan's venture to defend its World Cup title of 1992 in the year 1996.

Song: Aye Jazba Junoon
Band: Junoon

I suppose this song was not especially made for cricket but I am sharing a video tribute to Pakistan Cricket Team.

Song: Hum Hain Pakistani
Band: Vital Signs

This song features Strings, Vital Signs and Haroon with some Pakistani Cricketers at the end.

Song: Tu Hai Kahan
Band: Vital Signs, String and Haroon of Awaz

A nice song made for the 2003 World Cup. Its name is "aye-yo-way-yo-aye-yo-wa"  ... don't believe me listen to the song!!!

Song: Hai Koi Hum Jaisa
Band: Strings

A beautiful song made for the T20 World Cup 2009 which Pakistan won comprehensively.

Song: Hum Se Hai Zamaana
Band: Call

Wasim Akram - The Greatest Fast Bowler

This post is dedicated to one of the two Sultans of Swing and one of the two W's.

Wasim Akram (Urduوسیم اکرم) born 3 June 1966 is a former Pakistani left arm fast bowler and left-handed batsman in cricket, who represented the Pakistan national cricket team in Test cricket and One Day International matches.

Awards and Records
Akram was awarded Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1993 for his sporting achievements.
  • In his Test career, Akram took 414 wickets in 104 matches, a Pakistani record, at an average of 23.62 and scored 2,898 runs, at an average of 22.64.
  • In One Day Internationals, Akram took 502 wickets in 356 appearances, at an average of 23.52 and scored 3,717 runs, at an average of 16.52.
  • Akram was the first bowler in international cricket to take more than 400 wickets in both forms of the game and only Muttiah Muralitharan has since achieved this.
  • Akram also held the record for the most wickets in Cricket World Cups, a total of 55 in 38 matches. Australia's Glenn McGrath broke the record during the 2007 Cricket World Cup, ending with a final tally of 71 from 39 matches. On passing Wasim's record, McGrath said, "Wasim Akram, to me, is one of the greatest bowlers of all time. Left-armer, swung it both ways with the new ball and he was so dangerous with the old ball. To go past him is something I will always remember. Probably the other side of the coin is that if you play long enough, you're going to break records here and there."
  • Akram took four hat-tricks in international cricket, two each in Tests matches and One Day Internationals. He is the only bowler in cricket to have achieved four hat-tricks. He is also one of only three bowlers to have taken two Test cricket hat-tricks, the others being Hugh Trumble and Jimmy Matthews. Akram is also one of only three bowlers to have taken twoOne Day International cricket hat-tricks, the others being Pakistan offspin bowler, Saqlain Mushtaq and Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas. Akram's Test hat-tricks are significant, since they were taken in consecutive Test matches in the same series, a game played against Sri Lanka in the 1998-99 Asian Test Championship. Akram is also one of only two bowlers to have taken both a Test match and One Day International hat-trick, the other being Pakistan fast bowler, Mohammad Sami.
  • Playing in a Test series against the West Indies at Lahore in 1990-1991, he became one of only six players to have taken four wickets in an over during a Test match. In Akram's case, these achievement was not part of a hat-trick, the third ball he delivered to the batting opposition was a dropped catch, which allowed a single run.
  • Akram has also achieved the highest score by a number eight batsman in Test cricket when he scored 257 runs not out from 363 balls against Zimbabwe at Sheikhupura. The innings contained 12 sixes which is also a world record for Test cricket.
  • He also has the third highest number of Man of the Match awards in Test cricket, with seventeen.

Boom Boom Afridi

Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi (Urduصاحبزادہ محمد شاہد خان آفریدی) (born 1 March 1980 in Khyber Agency of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas), popularly known as Shahid Afridi (Pashtoشاهد ‏افریدی) is a Pakistani cricketer and current ODI and Twenty20 captain of the Pakistani national team in the international circuit.

Records and Achievement

  • On 4 October 1996, playing his maiden international innings, Afridi hit the fastest One-Day century off 37 balls against Sri Lanka in Nairobi. His innings included 28 runs off one of Sanath Jayasuriya's overs, whose record he broke.
  • Youngest player in history to make an ODI century at just 16 years and 217 days. It included 11 sixes and 6 fours.
  • Holds the joint record with Brian Lara for the third fastest ODI century off 45 balls in April 2005 against India. This actually was the first match that witnessed the Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri giving him the nickname Boom Boom Afridi. Highest aggregate sixes scored in the 50-over game, and he the most sixes per innings record.
  • Scored four consecutive sixes off a Harbhajan Singh over in a Test match against India in January 2006, matching a feat that Kapil Dev achieved in 1990.
  • Was the first player to score 12 runs off one ball, by hitting the roof of the Millennium Stadium. This took place in a game of Power Cricket.
  • Holds four of the top ten fastest ODI half centuries, twice completed in 18 balls and twice in 20 balls. He has also scored a half century off just 21 balls.
  • Made 32 runs off a Malinga Bandara over in an ODI game at Abu Dhabi in 2007. He struck four consecutive sixes and it was the 2nd most expensive over in ODI history.
  • Is only the third player in ODI history to achieve the combination of 6000 runs, 100 catches and 250 wickets. The other players being Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya and South Africa's Jacques Kallis.
  • On 21 June 2010, batting in the fifth match of the Asia Cup against Bangladesh in Dambulla, he achieved the world record of hitting the most number of sixes in an ODI career, which was previously owned by Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka. In the same match, he scored his sixth ODI century, also the sixth fastest century in ODI Cricket coming off 53 balls. He ended at 124 off 60 balls, which became his highest ODI score. This was also his second century in the 2010 Asia Cup.
  • On 2 November 2010, in the UAE neutral series against South Africa, in the third ODI, Afridi broke the record for most sixes hit in all formats of the game. He beat Sanath Jayasuriya to the top spot with 353 sixes. He scored more sixes than Jayasuriya but also took less than 200 matches to equal Jayasuriya's record.
  • On 30th December 2010, against New Zealand in New Zealand Afridi became the first bowler to take 50 international Twenty20 wickets. He finished the match with 53 Twenty20 wickets to his name from 41 matches.

Fastest Century

The record fastest century in 37 balls by Shahid Afridi in his second international match against Srilanka and first innings in International Cricket.

Second Fastest Century
The second fastest century of Boom Boom Afridi came at a crucial time when Pakistan toured India in the year 2005, it was the 5th ODI in the 6 match ODI series. The first two matches were won by India but then Pakistan made a great comeback winning all of the remaining four matches of the series.

KK

KK is one of my favorite singers because of his simple yet distinguishable style of singing.

One of his best songs "Yaaro Dosti" dedicated to all my friends ... :-)
